Score! tutors can help your child

this is a sponsored post

Research on academic achievement makes it clear that it's essential for students to develop strong reading skills by third grade. Math and other subjects are also important, but reading is a key part of just about every subject. My sons are both good readers, but if they had trouble with any aspect of reading -- word recognition, decoding, or comprehension, I wouldn't hesitate to get help for them. Score! has qualified academic tutors for every subject that students ages 4 to 14 will encounter. Their Innovative Tutor program has been helping students for 15 years and can offer the kind of personalized help that can really make a difference. If your child needs academic assistance, check out the help available from Score!.

Soccer

In our U-12 game we tied it up in the last quarter on a penalty kick. We got the call when one of our players went down on the ground as he was defended by two players in front of the goal. I thought he was going to get a good shot at the goal and the opposing team had been pushing quite a bit during the game, but I didn't see the foul. I know that the referee in the game is one who rarely calls anything and it usually requires a player on the ground for a call.

Suns - Lakers

I turned on the Suns - Lakers game last night near the end of the third quarter hoping to see the Lakers close enough to make it a game down the stretch. It was a real shock that they were up by more than 20 at that point and then as many as 33 in the fourth quarter. The Lakers looked good and the Suns didn't. I don't know if you can learn anything from that game or not. I don't expect it to happen again the next time they play.

Beach Cruisers are waiting for you at XYZ Bikes

this is a sponsored post

There are many types of bicycles to choose from, but beach cruisers are unique because they are easy to ride, not too expensive and they look great. Right now you can get a great deal on a beach cruiser from XYZ bikes for under $100. It's hard to find a used bike at that price and these are brand new beach cruisers. Don't wait because prices will go up for Christmas and this sale ends November 10th.

The 26 inch Man Deluxe Beach Cruiser is a steal at $88, but check out the whole catalog and you'll find something that suits your taste.

Celtics will be tough to beat in the East

I don't know how good the Wizards are, but they were a playoff team last year and Boston handled them very easily tonight. It's just the first game, but the Celtics look like a real contender in the East. There are not too many teams with three scorers like they've got, so they will be tough to beat.

iFloor has you covered in more ways than one

this is a sponsored post

Have you ever bought something online and then had problems trying to make a warranty claim on it? Some manufacturers use the excuse that you bought it online to deny you the warranty. That's not right. Well, if you are interested in buying flooring, iFLOOR not only has a great selection and nice prices, they are offering a $1 million guarantee in case your warranty claim is denied because you bought your flooring online.

iFloor sells lots of flooring -- hardwood, tile, carpet, vinyl, cork and more. They also offer free pickup at one of their local terminals or $99 shipping when you spend $1200. Check out what they've got to offer and if you buy from them, you'll be sure that your warranty will be honored.

iFLOOR, America's largest online flooring retailer, today announced a $1,000,000 limited warranty designed to protect its customers from predatory manufacturer policies that exclude warranty coverage from online purchases.

The policy, which goes into effect immediately, offers up to one million dollars of coverage in the event that a customer's warranty claim is denied specifically because they made their purchase online. It is complimentary for every iFLOOR customer, and protects the buyer under the same terms as the original product warranty.

iFLOOR, Inc. CEO, Steve Simonson, came up with the program to combat "scare tactics" used by manufacturers of hardwood floors and laminate flooring. "Their idea is to discourage you from buying at a discount!" wrote Simonson in his blog "It's About Flooring". "This is not right! You deserve to save money! So we're going to take care of this problem once and for all."

And it would appear that federal law is on his side. Section 108 of the 1975 Magnuson-Moss Act, states that, "In general, tie-in sales provisions are not allowed. Such a provision would require a purchaser of the warranted product to buy an item or service from a particular company to use with the warranted product in order to be eligible to receive a remedy under the warranty."

Under iFLOOR's new warranty, a key provision allows for iFLOOR to "seek justice" on behalf of the customer in the event of legal action. According to Simonson, "I'm putting iFLOOR's money where my mouth is."

Halloween pictures

I took pictures of the trick or treaters who came to our house last night. The pictures look good and I hope to get them online tonight. What surprised me was that no one said no to having their picture taken. I don't think I would have gotten the same reaction without the costumes. The other surprise was actually how few kids were out last night and how few houses were participating. There seemed to be fewer of both -- maybe the fires or maybe the foreclosures had something to do with it.

Air is getting close to normal

They said on the radio today that the air quality today was moderate, so that's a step in the right direction. I think it will be another week at least before it doesn't look smoggy, but today we had some fog and a little bit of precipitation and I'm sure that helps clean things up a little. Fires are still burning not far away, so things could change, but it seems safe to resume outdoor activities. I've seen more people walking the past few days and even though the schools have not resumed PE, I think it's time to get back outside. There may even be some good sunsets with all the particulate in the air.
